Traditional New Years Day Meal

1 Jan

Today after church we had our traditional New Years Day meal. We always have black-eyed peas, cabbage and ham. It is said these things bring good luck and wealth in the coming year. I wish that for us and all of you as well. Happy New Year!

Same for us, minus the cabbage, an oversight on my part. Have a great one.

Thanks Stephen. In Southern lore, the peas represent coins, and the greens (including cabbage) represent folding money. Since you didn’t eat greens and will be short of folding money in the coming year I hope all your coins are gold and silver! And we eat pork and never chicken because hogs root foreward and chickens scratch backward.

Dennis and I just had ours. We love that fried hog jowl and allow it once a year. Then the peas and cabbage just like you. Plus cornbread! And….I noticed we used the same china you did!!!! Here’s to lots of luck, wealth, health, and happiness!

Yeah Cathy, we had cornbread too. And doesn’t that fancy china just make cleanup a breeze?
