About

We are a conservative Christian couple living in Tennessee. Swamp Dog is an agricultural consultant and Sweet Thing is retired from her career as a purchasing agent for a rubber compound manufacturing company. We are in the process of building our dream home on our homestead just outside of town. We have been “Prepers” all our lives, we just didn’t know there was a name for it. We believe in being prepared to take care of ourselves and our family. We think hard times are coming, so we want to be able to do more for ourselves, and not be standing in the soup line waiting for the government to take care of us.

Found your brick by using Google. My wife and I love the color. I know that it is General Shale MILLSTONE. Do you know what the exact color and make of the mortar is? THANKS for any help!

    • doublebhomestead May 20, 2016 at 11:09 pm #

I can’t remember exactly, but it was a special order dark brown mortar we bought from the brick seller. I brought 100 bricks home after we picked what I wanted then I had the bricklayer put together 3 square examples using different color mortars so I could see exactly how it would look. I’m so glad I did, the mortar can really effect the look of the brick.

Is it possible that maybe you could find out the mortar name and make this coming week? We’ve been on the hunt for over a month! Also do you have any up close pics of the brick and mortar after is fully cured and weathered some. Possibly you could call or text. Would like to talk with you about specific details. My wife and I are currently building our home in central KY. Your help is greatly appreciated!! THANKS again
