Tuesday Tunes: Glen Campbell; Southern Nights

8 Aug

Glen Campbell passed today at the age of 81 after battling Alzheimer’s for several years. I wanted to play my favorite songs by Glen. I could have picked any number of his songs which you may be familiar with such as Wichita Lineman, Gentle On My Mind, Rhinestone Cowboy, ETC., but Southern Nights takes me back to a simpler time. Give this song a listen shall we?

How about some good-ole freaky hippie music from 1972 featuring a very young Stevie Winwood. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tunes:The Beatles;I Want You So Bad

16 Feb

Today I heard a tune by the Beatles that I had never heard before. Apparently there is some speculation as to whether this recording is actually by the Beatles or is a cover by someone else. It definitely sounds like the Beatles to me. What do you think? Enjoy!

Tuesday Tunes:Lee Benoit;Lacassine Special

Today is Fat Tuesday, otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday, the last day of Mardi Gras. Since Mardi Gras is such a big event in South Louisiana I thought it appropriate to have some Cajun Zydeco music. Give it a listen I think you will enjoy it.

Tuesday Tunes:The Eagles;Seven Bridges Road

In remembrance of Glenn Frey’s recent passing, how about we have some Eagles today? Enjoy!

Tuesday Tunes:Lynyrd Skynyrd; Sweet Home Alabama

27 Oct

This past Saturday, Sweet Thing and I attended a wedding which was held on the grounds of a restored Civil War Era mansion.

This mansion has been listed on the National Register Of Historic Places.

For our musical entertainment, they had two dudes doing their best Simon and Garfunkel. The wedding was held outside, and although rain was predicted, it held off and allowed this lovely event to take place as planned.

The reception was held inside a pavilion around back, and the entertainment was provided by a 7 man Black band, the Mid-Town All-Stars out of Memphis. This band was Jammin’! They had an eclectic mix of music, let me tell you. Their first set included Kool And The Gang/ Jungle Boogie, Wilson Picket/ Mustang Sally, Average White Band/ Play That Funky Music White Boy, Howlin’ Wolf/ Shake It For Me, Luke Bryant/ Strip It Down, Prince Royce/ Back It Up, and even Lynyrd Skynyrd/ Sweet Home Alabama. I wish I had video taped that song because that was quite an experience hearing an all Black band performing Sweet Home Alabama. No haters around here! Let’s listen to the original, shall we?

Well I heard Mister Young sing about her,

I heard ole Neal put her down,

Well, I hope Neal Young will remember,

A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow!
