Ultra-lite airplane

25 Jul

I was in a field that butted right up to the back yard of this house and I saw this ultra-lite plane parked in the yard. I sent sweet Thing a picture and said “look at this”. She sent back NO! I didn’t even say I wanted one! She sure tells me no a lot to any new toys doesn’t she? If you look closely, right in front of the nose of the plane you can see a huge Shell Gasoline sign hanging on the barn. You can also see a big stack of old advertising signs leaning against the back of the barn. I am going to keep my eyes open to see if I can spot that man out in the yard so I can start a conversation with him. Maybe he will let me look at his stuff. He might even sell me something if the price is right.

Earlier in the day, I spotted this large minnow just laying on the ground in the middle of the field. It was nowhere near a ditch or puddle. I guess a bird flew over and dropped it. Or maybe the good Lord sent it to me for lunch like manna from Heaven? Sorry, but raw fish is not on my menu for the day. Keep prepping everyone!

Old Advertising Signs

5 Apr

This old sign was on the front fence line of our property next to the road.

The top part was an old advertising sign for Homelite Chainsaws. There was another sign hanging below it at one time, but someone cut that part of the sign loose and took it with them. I asked some of the locals if they remember what the sign was for, but the ones I asked didn’t remember, so I’ll keep asking. I want to hang this sign back up somewhere on the homestead with some old signs from the past. I would like one that says RC Cola or something similar. I know the original signs will be $200 or more for a decent one so I looked online for some good replicas. I found some excellent ones that are 12X18 inches but that is too small. I need something twice that size. Does anyone know where I might buy some larger replica metal signs?

I found a good pole to use to hang it from. I found this old bridge timber which had floated up on the bank of the Mississippi River.

Having been floating around in the river for a time it has a good rounded and weathered look to it. I think it will look snazzy on the homestead if I can find the right signs to hang from it.
