Cable Update

25 Apr

Finally, after 3 months and numerous calls to the cable company, they came out and buried the cable lines across the driveway. As I was standing there watching the worker bury the line with his trencher I decided “I want one!”

This trencher has a 24 inch steel shank for digging, and it works by vibrating rapidly up and down. It will bury the cable down to 24 inches and barely disturbs the surface of the soil. With another attachment it can also bury flexible water line, that is why I need it. When we built our new house I remembered to put outside water faucets on all four sides, but I neglected to run any lines away from the house. Now I have 150 feet of hose laying in the yard out to the dog pen. FAIL! Now I am either going to have to put up with a hose laying in the yard or I am going to have to dig a trench and lay some waterline out to the pen. I also could use a waterline out to where I plan on having some garden plants, and I would like to have a line up towards the front of the driveway where I will have some decorative flowers and shrubs. Oh well, I thought of just about everything when we were deciding on the million things you have to decide on when building a new house, but in this one area I dropped the ball. Stay prepared.

Cable Television

Well, the cable company finally came out and started installing the cable.

I was working in my shop and I heard someone driving up to the house. I looked over and realized it was the cable company and I thought “YES!!!” It is about time.

They had this big spool of cable, and as you can see the ground was slick and muddy from the rain. I kinda felt bad watching them slip and slog through the mud but I wasn’t about to send them away!

They worked out on the highway for a couple of hours stringing the new cable down to where it previously ended.

Then they pulled the line from the road to the pole in our yard. These men were actually just outside contractors hired by the cable company to install the main wires. The cable man still has to run the wires into the house and get everything set up correctly. I’ll definitely be giving them a call tomorrow so they will come and finish the job. It should just be a matter of time until we move in. In fact, we moved the furniture for the downstairs guest room today, and tomorrow we will move some of our bedroom furniture in anticipation of finally spending our first night in our new home. YEAH!!!

Cable Television At The New Homestead

This is what our cable looks like at our new home. Yes, that’s right, it’s not hooked up. When we started construction back in June we had the cable company come out and make sure they could provide service. One man came out and measured around the house and said no problem. He even gave us a 1000 foot roll of cable to wire inside the house. He said when we get farther along just call them again. In October the house was in the dry so we called again. They came out and measured and said no problem, we’ll put you on the work schedule. Well, it gets to be the last week in November and the house is complete but the cable is not ready. Sweet Thing goes to the office in person and the woman working the front desk says there is a problem, I don’t think we can provide you with cable service. Sweet Thing has the manager come out and he says well this is a kind of funny situation. Oh, really? The neighbor on your west has cable coming from the west, then it ends at that house. The neighbor on your east side has cable coming from the east, then it ends there, so there is no cable on the poles in front of your house. It will take more than 1000 feet of line to reach your house so we can’t run that much line to provide service for one residence. So then Sweet Thing took him to school on how he needed to change his attitude as he was serving the public. Well, after she got through with him, he decided he would go out himself and measure and see what could be done, and low and behold we just made the criteria this time. He said we would only have to wait 4 more weeks to be hooked up. WHAT! We have been waiting since June, so she took him to school again, now they are coming next week. I told her I had to have my cable before we could move in. Come on cable guys, get with it!
