AR-15 Build

5 May

P1020450

I didn’t show the details of my AR build. I only had to complete the lower with this kit, the upper was already assembled.

First, I went on-line and printed out this parts list from AR-15.com

I opened the bag of loose parts.

I put the parts list inside a cardboard tray that previously held canned sodas. Then I placed the appropriate part on top of the picture on the diagram, that way I was sure what each part actually was. Those little springs, indents, and pins look awfully similar sometimes. The only trouble I had with assembly was putting the pivot pin indent where it belonged. As I was pressing it down on the spring, it slipped and went flying across the room! Fortunately I had another pin in another kit so I was able to use that pin instead. I looked on-line and you can buy a package of 10 of those indents and springs for just $8, so that will be in my next Amazon order!

Other than that, assembly went smooth as silk, so now my new AR is ready for action! Keep prepping everyone!

Fun Show

6 Apr

I went to a gun show last weekend and there was a substantial crowd on hand. There were lots of guns on display and most of the new guns were fairly priced, about what you might find on-line or at a retail store. The used guns on the other hand, were WAY overpriced in my opinion. I didn’t notice any of those selling, I guess you just have to have a particular itch needing to be scratched to make the deal on the used guns. There was also lots of ammo for sale finally, but still seems to be 20% overpriced for what the prices are on-line. Except the 22LR. A brick is still asking price of $60-85! Not for me, thank you very much, I’ll wait. Pre Obama you could get a brick for $20-25 so If I see some for $35-40 I might get one, but I won’t like it.

I bought 10 of these Colt surplus military magazines for $6 each. How was that price, too much? The springs felt good, maybe with a little oil and some TLC they will be ready to go. I primarily purchased them for possible resale in the future when the gun-grabbers make more progress towards getting them banned. Might be a good item to have on hand for barter. Keep prepping everyone!

Shout out to Midway USA!

30 Mar

I wanted to give a big shout out to Midway USA. Late in the evening of the 21st I placed an on-line order with them and choose the least expensive standard shipping.

Then on the afternoon of the 24th I find this on my doorstep. What could it be?

P1020417

Oooo! A complete AR15 rifle kit minus the stripped lower. Sweet! Three day standard shipping from order to delivery is not too bad, thanks Midway. I already have a lower that I have been playing with. I bought a lower kit and put it together with the stripped lower, then I took it apart and put it back together 4 times. I feel pretty competent working with the lower, now I can practice putting together the upper. I’ll let you know how it shoots when I get it together. Keep prepping everyone!
