This past Saturday, Sweet Thing and I attended a wedding which was held on the grounds of a restored Civil War Era mansion.
This mansion has been listed on the National Register Of Historic Places.
For our musical entertainment, they had two dudes doing their best Simon and Garfunkel. The wedding was held outside, and although rain was predicted, it held off and allowed this lovely event to take place as planned.
The reception was held inside a pavilion around back, and the entertainment was provided by a 7 man Black band, the Mid-Town All-Stars out of Memphis. This band was Jammin’! They had an eclectic mix of music, let me tell you. Their first set included Kool And The Gang/ Jungle Boogie, Wilson Picket/ Mustang Sally, Average White Band/ Play That Funky Music White Boy, Howlin’ Wolf/ Shake It For Me, Luke Bryant/ Strip It Down, Prince Royce/ Back It Up, and even Lynyrd Skynyrd/ Sweet Home Alabama. I wish I had video taped that song because that was quite an experience hearing an all Black band performing Sweet Home Alabama. No haters around here! Let’s listen to the original, shall we?
Well I heard Mister Young sing about her,
I heard ole Neal put her down,
Well, I hope Neal Young will remember,
A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow!
