You Might Be A Redneck If,,,

According to Jeff Foxworthy, if the only time you notice your check engine light is when it goes off,,,You might be a redneck! Well I own 4 Pickup trucks and 1 SUV and the check engine light is on in every one of them! I take them to the mechanic and he checks them out and invariably, the cause of the light is some sort of sensor in the pollution control system. When I ask if fixing it will make the vehicle run better or get better gas mileage, the answer is always the same. No, all the repair will do is make the warning light go off. How much will the repair cost? $400-500 usually! No thanks, I will just look at the warning light and ignore it.

Took our SUV in today, for a simple light. Wife drove home this afternoon with a new set of tires, full fluid replacement, oil change and for wheel alignment. Cha-ching.

I bought one of those readers that you can turn the light back off. I turned it off on my car and that was two years ago. I ain’t seen it since. 🙂

I might try that. It certainly would be cheaper than getting all those sensors replaced.

There are various diagnostic devices that hook into cell phones or laptops that are very inexpensive that will give you the code to the problem and then you can look it up on the web.

Thanks Russell, diagnosing the code is not the problem. Rather it is replacing the errant part that runs into the big bucks with no real benefit to he vehicle.

Wait. You mean that light is not suppose to be on? I always thought it meant that your engine was running fine since I have never seen one that wasn’t on.

It appears Jeff Foxworthy was right, we all just learn to ignore those pesky lights!
