Construction Update 40

19 Nov

I haven’t posted any construction updates recently, I wanted to show some of the work finished, but they just keep draggggging it out! Today I will show what they have done in the kitchen.

This is an overview shot of the kitchen.

This is the vent-a-hood, it is stainless steel with a curved glass top. We are waiting for a piece of granite to match the countertops to be the backsplash for the stove.

This is the far corner of the cabinets. That looks like a lot of plug-ins doesn’t it? The code mandates 1 plug every 36 inches of countertop, they don’t want you using extension cords in the kitchen.

This is the other corner, it has a bookcase for Sweet Things cookbooks, but that case will only hold 1/3 of the books she has. She says she will cull them down when we move, I’ll have to see that with my own eyes!

This is the sink area looking out into the great room. The countertop has a 12 inch overhang so we can put some stools along the front for additional eating space.

This is a close-up of the granite countertops, they are basically black with green and silver flecks inside. They have glued the sink in with some sort of super-duper glue and are holding it up with clamps until the glue dries. They still need to drill holes in the granite for the faucets and then buff and polish the countertops. They will do that when they come back with the backsplash.

Over the sink area we are going to have  three or four of these hanging pendent lights. Sweet Thing doesn’t like them so I am going to have to bear the blame for them, I picked them out myself.

This is the separate refrigerator and freezer units. Yes, there are two completely separate units, after all there will be two of us in this house and we need lots of space in the fridge. HA! The cabinet-maker will finish the area over the units now that they have been installed and he knows exactly how big the space will be. More tomorrow.
