Luna Moth

6 Sep

I found this Luna Moth on the side of my barn recently. It had a wingspan of about 4 inches. An interesting fact about these moths, they are born without mouths! They only live in this adult stage for 1 week, they breed, lay eggs, then die. Since they only live for such a short period of time, feeding would interfere with the more important process of continuing the survival of the species!

Had to catch a luna moth for my biology class many years ago. Do not think I have seen one since. Pam

They are still around, just go out at night and look around a bright light and you may see one.
