My neighbor at the homestead sent this picture last week. Early one morning as he was leaving for work, he saw this in his back yard, 6 turkeys and a Doe! We have been feeding them corn and they are still coming around. He also thinks he caught a glimpse of a White Turkey a few days ago. He also saw a hen with 6 poults last week, so we have a good crop of turkeys. My shop is just on the other side of the trees you see in the background. I’m looking forward to sitting on my back porch, drinking a cup of coffee and watching the wildlife in the back yard.

usually we have herds of deer that come through our homestead, stopping just on the edge of our deck in the evenings. i like to stand out there, have a smoke and talk to them. but this year we are not seeing the deer at all…they have not even taken a nibble of the gardens (which of course is a good thing,) which is somewhat worrisome. perhaps it is the weird weather we have been having this year-but you would think they would be driven to come through for the food and water. i have seen lots of turkey on the natchez trace nearby though. it has been said that during times of drought, animals do not reproduce much so that may be the answer to the disappearance of the deer.
They may have a reliable source of water somewhere else and are staying close and not wandering about.
